Unusual Trend in Amazon Marketplace Sales
We've been selling our products on Amazon for about 3 or 4 months now and I've begun to notice a pattern with the sales. It seems like we get 3 or 4 good weeks of sales, followed up by 2 or 3 weeks of slower sales. I'm highlighting this trend with a graph of our sales over the past month (numbers obscured, just showing the concept).

You can clearly see the rise, the steady sales, the drop, the rise again, then the last dip. Over the past weekend, sales have really shot up once again and we'll probably do record sales over the weekend for our items on Amazon (thanks customers!).
I've been trying to pin down the reason(s) for this. At first, I thought it might be feedback related; but our feedback was trending very positive (about 92% positive) before the latest dip, which was about 2-5% higher than before and we also have more products in stock than earlier in the season. So that's not the cause.
We've also been updating UPC codes for our products, so they relate better with current product on Amazon. Sales did not rise or fall after starting to include those to our feeds, so that is not the cause either. On this note though, we've noticed that bigger companies (Target, for example) are using the improper UPC codes on some products which causes problems. Since they are the "authority" for some products, their information supercedes our own. This has caused a few problems over the past week, where Target claims a given product is 72 inches long, when it's actually 36 inches. Target uploaded the product as 72 inches, using the 36 inch UPC code. Nice, Right?
I'm guessing that Amazon somehow cycles the sellers around, to make sure everyone gets their products listed well on average, instead of having a few people always appear on top. This makes quite a bit of sense; showing different results all the time would help customer retention.
Either way, the ups and downs are very confusing. We are just hoping that the cycle is up during the busy Christmas shopping season.
Ron Paul: 9/11 Truther Supporters
Here is a video of Ron Paul supporters outside the Democrat debate on June 3rd, 2007. They are of the "9/11 was an inside job" truther crowd. Now, Ron Paul could be a truther or he could just be a truther enabler. He does regularly appear on the Alex Jones radio show. He also has said that he believes JFK was killed by our government. That conspiracy, while easily debunked, does not bother me as much as 9/11. Your beliefs on 9/11 directly affect our national security and our future.
So, as we've discussed before, Ron Paul's support seems to come from 9/11 truthers.
And this is his main problem, with me at least. Ron Paul is terrific on domestic issues - taxes, government spending, regulation, etc. But he is horrible on foreign policy. It's short sighted. If Ron Paul seriously wanted to be a serious candidate; he could raise his stature among all Republicans (and the country, I'm sure), by denouncing the truthers and coming out and saying what he believes in regards to 9/11.
Will he?
Ron Paul Facts
Some interesting facts that you may (or may not know) about Ron Paul:
Ron Paul first ran for President in 1988, as a Libertarian, despite having no previous affiliation with the party. Silly Libertarians will let any kook run.
Ron Paul enables trutherism; the lowest for of conspiracy mongering by wanting a pointless new investigation. He's on the same level as Kucinich in this regard.
Ron Paul's job in the House has been, primarily, to keep his seat warm.
Ron Paul has had 312 sponsored bills die in committee during his House tenure, which gets him a terrible rating when compared to his peers.
Ron Paul has never sponsored a bill, gotten others to agree with him, gotten it out of committee had it passed and signed into law. This display of leadership clearly makes him qualified to lead the country.
Ron Paul isn't even really a libertarian. He has voted for government funding of education, health care, and has voted against gun rights.
Ron Paul doesn't like the Constitution, obviously.
Despite polling very well online, Ron Paul cannot pass 1% in a respectable nation-wide poll. Maybe it means one type of poll is wrong. Wonder which it is?
Ron Paul supporters act like lemmings even when they are told to act like lemmings.
Ron Paul supporters are really truthers, and over 90% of his support comes from truthers.
Ron Paul hasn't distinguished himself as a Representative; why should anyone vote for him as President?
Even Ron Paul thinks that's stupid; and that's saying a lot!
Democrats love Ron Paul on stage, because he makes everyone else a little more kooky as well.
Must be a conspiracy to keep Ron Paul out of office, as there is no logical reason to be opposed to this time tested leader.
UPDATE!
Ron Paul is in the pockets of Big Oil (in my scary voice):
Voted YES on scheduling permitting for new oil refinieries. (Jun 2006) Voted NO on passage of the Bush Administration national energy policy. (Jun 2004) Voted NO on implementing Bush-Cheney national energy policy. (Nov 2003) Voted NO on raising CAFE standards; incentives for alternative fuels. (Aug 2001) Voted NO on prohibiting oil drilling & development in ANWR. (Aug 2001) Voted NO on starting implementation of Kyoto Protocol. (Jun 2000) Repeal the gas tax. (May 2001)
Given that his district is the Gulf Coast of Texas (where the refineries and oil platforms are); this is not surprising is it? Big Oil. Ron Paul.
Bush Uses Magic to Make Fire Melt Steel (again!)
Just noting the obvious retort to the 9/11 truther claim that fire cannot melt steel.
For the record, steel loses 50% integrity at the temperature jet fuel burned, which caused the systemic failure in the buildings.
Truthers claim that fire cannot melt steel. I usually avoid the obvious retort that says "steel workers disagree with you, people who make forks disagree with you, even guys who make samurai swords disagree with you." Anyways.
But there was an accident the other day in San Fransisco that shows fire melting steel. Must've been Bush using controlled demolitions again. And I quote fire crews on the scene:
The upper deck of Interstate Highway 580 at Interstate Highway 80, located near Emeryville, collapsed Sunday morning after an explosion and fire.
Heat from the tanker explosion on the westbound 580 melted the upper roadway of the MacArthur Maze. The fire was intense enough to cause the tanker truck to basically melt away, according to crews on the scene.
Bush, you magnificent bastard. Thumbing your nose at the truthers when they least expect it. NBC11 has a complete slideshow of the situation here.

Digital Point Thread of the Day
Thread of the day is at Digital Point today. A user known as "guru-seo" started a thread about how well his new site ranked. At first; the site was just an obvious Bush hater site (not that I care, really, but its a thinly veiled attempt to promote it). I chime in on that fact at about the 5th post. Two posters before me already pointed out that the site only ranks well because the keyword isn't even targeted (ie. no one ever searches for the terms used, so who cares if its #1).
I realize that the content is ripped from a site his site links to; but can't verify it so its not pursued by me. But we'll get back to this. When another user, mvandemar (owner of this useful tool), points it out and emails the copyright holder, "guru-seo" apparently claims that he owns plinko.com (post #28). After being asked several times if he ripped content from plinko's site; he ignores us. An obvious admission of guilt - in my eyes - at least.
For posterity (in case the site is ever removed), here is a screen shot of "guru-seo"'s site.
And here is a link to the original site for comparison. Tex stolen. Check. Images stolen. Check. Claiming to be the site owner. Check. Houston, we have a problem.
Truthers and Looney Tune Physics
For some reason, I spend time debating with Truthers about 9/11. One of their points of contention is the Pentagon and that it was not hit by a plane. One of the primary reasons they claim this is that there is no wing hole in the wall of the pentagon and only the fuselage seemed to make any damage to the wall.
I tell them, usually, their knowledge of physics should not be based off of cartoons. In a cartoon, if Wile E Coyote hit a wall, this happened:

But this is not reality. When a plane hits a wall, it will not look like this:

Why you ask? Makes sense doesn't it? There are wings, they should leave an impression right? Quite simply, planes are meant to travel through the air, not concrete. The mass of a plane is in the fuselage, so when it hit the pentagon you aren't going to see holes in the wall where they hit.
But we saw them on the WTC towers. And? The WTC's front face was a facade - very thin. When the plane hit the steel supports, the planes disintegrated, as you'd expect. Purdue University has a great series of pictures on what happened to Flight 77 when it hit the pentagon.
It makes for great reading. Unless you are Daffy Duck and want to believe the Looney Tunes are a true representation of reality. But, I have a feeling that the truth and the Truthers do not intersect too often, so this is the only image we'll see of them:
